The GSV "Awake Yet Dreaming" was commissioned as one of the first prototype Minds for Special Circumstances. After decades of service, Awake Yet Dreaming became obsessed with the question "Do Minds Dream, and if not, can one truly be conscious?" and pursued manifestation in biological form.
This eccentricity eventually led to its fellow Minds giving it the pejorative name "Lucid Lunatic". Proving them correct, GSV "Lucid Lunatic" declared herself a she and accepted the title eagerly. The Lucid Lunatic was approached for a mission into an unstable wormhole that signalled intelligent life within, as the Culture was unwilling to send their best and determined that the Lunatic might be Lunatic enough to actually do it.
She was.
The instability of the wormhole left Lucid Lunatic stranded in New Eden. Quickly realizing that she could pass herself off as a "capsuleer", Lucid Lunatic reformatted her consciousness to adhere to capsuleer protocol and started an exciting life as a space pirate.

She still does not dream.
